Estimated Quarterly Tax Payments Due June 15th
If you make estimated quarterly tax payments, your second quarter payment is due on Monday, June 15, 2026. This deadline affects self-employed individuals, retirees, investors, and anyone who will owe a tax amount of $1,000 or more when their return is filed.
Keep in mind that federal income taxes are pay-as-you-go, meaning you pay as you earn. If your work or income sources have changed since your estimated payments were calculated for 2026, be certain to update your payment amounts to avoid potential penalties, under or over payments.
Due Dates
For estimated tax purposes, the IRS divides the year into four payment periods. Each period has a specific payment due date. If you don’t pay enough tax by the due date of each of the payment periods, you may be charged a penalty even if you are due a refund when you file your income tax return.
In 2026, estimated tax payments are due:
- April 15 for income earned January 1 to March 31
- June 15 for income earned April 1 to May 31
- September 15 for income earned June 1 to August 31
- January 15 of the following year for income earned September 1 to December 31
Payment Options
The IRS offers many options for taxpayers to make their estimated quarterly tax payments.
Paying online through your online IRS account is preferred. Payment methods include debit card, credit card, digital wallet and other methods. When using your online IRS account, you are able to see your payment history and other tax records.
If you choose to mail your estimated tax payment, please make certain your envelope is postmarked on or before the due date. The IRS will treat your payment as on-time even if it arrives days later. You may want to take your payment directly to the post office and ask for the envelope to be hand stamped to ensure the postmark is on or before the due date.
